For his Ph.D. thesis titled "Impact of Confined Extension on the Failure Envelope of Crystalline Rock", Dr. Patel was fortunate to receive the prestigious Dr. N.G.W. Cook Ph.D. Dissertation Award at ARMA 2019, New York. Each year this award is presented to an outstanding doctoral dissertation in rock mechanics or rock engineering in the world. He has more than four years of consulting experience in rock mechanics/rock engineering and soil mechanics. His primary focus areas are rock mechanics, tunneling, underground mining, and slope stability. He has additional expertise in nuclear waste isolation, underground storage caverns, ground support, site characterization, foundation engineering, etc. Presently, Dr. Patel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India.
